Two and a half hours of random crap streaming on AH Radio, starting at 9 PM Eastern/ 6 PM SL.  Daft Punk, Luscious Jackson, Citizen Cope, Beastie Boys, Zero 7, A Tribe Called Quest and a lot of other stuff produced by shakin’ my music collection upside-down into a pan.  You know the drill.

DJing a three-hour music set tonight from 8PM to 11PM Eastern, centered around the 1966 recording of Sammy Davis Jr. and Buddy Rich performing “Come Back to Me” at the Sands Casino. Will be spinning jazz, big band, lounge– bringing it up with anything that has an attitude and swings, and bringing it back down with anything that lays back and chills.  Link to the Shoutcast stream via Amber Horizons radio in the sidebar.  Be there or…  y’know.

update: might delay the start of the formal program by 30-60 minutes, but music will be on from 8PM.

Tis the Season

It’s a pretty loose affair this year, or even compared to the Halloween party;   no massive build, no über playlist.  (No surprise marriage proposals.  I don’t think… ;) )  But we did manage to resurrect Skybase Luna after the Devastating Deletion Disaster, and there’ll be Holiday music on from somewhere in the neighborhood of  5 Pacific/ 8 Eastern to 9 Pacific/ midnight Eastern, through the usual link, if you want to listen in.

Halloween music program went well, despite a few technical glitches.  If you were listening to the program between midnight and 1 AM EST, and wondered why all the Halloween-themed music was suddenly replaced by metal and classic rock:  we had a number of insistent floor requests from the partygoers to hear Led Zeppelin, such that I felt compelled to acquiesce.  Keep the home team happy!

When we did finally get back around to the Halloween music, though, I wound up playing more cuts than were included on the original list anyway.  So it worked out.

Motherlode!

There was this stack of discs lying on the kitchen table at work.  Burnable computer CDs.  They had a handwritten sign next to them reading, “FREE MUSIC!  Take me!”,  so I picked up one or two of them and checked them out.  They looked like the CD equivalent of mix tapes.  I recognized a few artist names, enough to make me interested, but I had a lot to do, both at work and at home, so I put them back down and went on my way.  I figured someone else would be glad to have them.

A week later they were still on the kitchen table.  I hadn’t seen anyone take any of them in the intervening seven days, or even touch them.  I figured that if no one else was gonna take them in that span of time, I couldn’t be considered a swag hog, so I wrapped the whole stack in a piece of paper and threw them in my backpack.  When I got home, I took them out of my backpack, and threw them on my computer table.  And there they sat.  They got packed up for the move in Sealand, and unpacked here in Shadetree.

I just sat down to look at them and sort through them now.  And as it turns out, the titles that I took to be track names aren’t track names.  They’re album names.  The discs are full of music, in some cases entire discographies of the artists in question.  And all in mp3!

Score!

The Amber Horizons Cross-World Beach Party

… is scheduled for tomorrow.   It starts on Aderyn Quinnell’s Myst Haven West sim in Second Life  (234, 113, 22) at 3 pm PDT/ 1600 Cavern / 6 pm EDT, and then is supposed to switch to Beach Party Amber’s Ahnonay age in Myst Online: Uru Live Again at 5 pm PDT/ 1800 Cavern / 9 pm EDT.  Except that MOULa has been down for  unscheduled maintenance for the past three days, with a message reading “Down for unscheduled maintenance.  Hope to be back up tomorrow…”

Odds are if the Cavern tanks for the weekend, we’ll just hold the entire party in SL and then reschedule the Cavern portion some other time.  Either way, though, I have a 5-hour-plus  program of beach music gettin’ ready to go, including (but not limited to) The Beach Boys, Sophisticated Savage, The Ventures, The Greaseballs, Smashmouth, Bob Marley and a variety of Hawaiian and island music, both traditional and modern.  You can listen by clicking the Amber Horizons radio link in the Navigation sidebar.

And if you’re in-world, of course, c’mon down.

This Saturday, December 19th, I’ll be streaming a program of holiday music, starting officially at 9 PM EST/ 6 PM PST, and going until the associated party in Second Life dies out (probably at least midnight EST/ 9 PM PST, or later.)  Pre-program should begin somewhere in the neighborhood of a half-hour before the “official” start.  The link is in the sidebar, as previously noted.

Cheers!

sheet music

After a considerable self-imposed hiatus, I have restored my Shoutcasting set-up on Eve, so I can DJ once again.  Generally I do this on Monday nights, between 9 PM EST/ 6 PM PST and 12 AM EST/ 9 PM PST.  Sometimes I go later, if people are having fun (it coincides with our traditional neighborhood get-together night in Second Life.)

There’s a link to the stream source in the Navigation sidebar labeled Songs of the Interregnum.  If you’re interested in tuning in, please do.  I’m trying to do an all-dance program this coming Monday, working it across a variety of genres, since I don’t really have enough dance music in any one to fill the entire three hours.

Better yet, if you’re in SL, come on by and dance!
